William Leggett
William Leggett was born and raised in Mercedes, Texas, where his family's deep agricultural roots shaped his values and work ethic. His grandfather, William "Buddy" Ross, has operated the Ross Gin Co-op since 1958, and his great-grandfather, Salvador Hinojosa, founded H&H Meat Products in Mercedes — a company recognized as the top minority-owned business in the United States in 1983.
Mr. Leggett graduated from the Science Academy of South Texas before earning his Bachelor of Science in Economics magna cum laude from Texas A&M University. He then attended the University of Houston Law Center, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. During law school, Mr. Leggett gained distinguished judicial experience as an intern for the Honorable Ricardo Hinojosa, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He also gained practical litigation experience at a bankruptcy and civil litigation firm in McAllen, Texas, assisting lead counsel through a highly contested probate trial.
Following his admission to the bar, Mr. Leggett joined two firms focusing on personal injury and property damage litigation, where he successfully first-chaired a personal injury trial to verdict. In January 2020, he was appointed Assistant District Attorney at the Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney's Office, where he prosecuted both misdemeanor and felony matters. Notably, in the 464th District Court, he first-chaired a felony DWI trial to verdict and served as second chair in a murder trial alongside fellow prosecutor Michael Walker.
From 2023 to 2026, Mr. Leggett represented hundreds of personal injury clients at a civil litigation firm, guiding them through the full arc of litigation — from high-stakes depositions and mediations through final resolution.
Mr. Leggett has now joined The Ricky Rod Law Group, where he serves in the litigation division, representing clients in a broad range of personal injury matters. Beyond the law, he is a lifelong musician — a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with a passion for both guitar and keyboards.
